Twenty years in nursing turned out to be good training for this. When a puppy is lethargic it's usually low blood sugar, and I can spot that. I notice things. That's most of this job.
People ask why I do this. Honestly: someone's gonna breed dogs. I just want it done right. Nine years in, that's still reason enough.
My puppies aren't raised in a kennel building. They're born in my house, handled by my whole family, and they hear the dishwasher and the doorbell and the kids long before they ever meet you.

Three breeds, one house
A loyal companion for life
Sheepadoodles
Old English Sheepdog crossed with a standard poodle. Smart, silly, easy to live with. This is the one most families land on once I've talked it through with them.

Bernedoodles
Bernese Mountain Dog crossed with a poodle. Sweet, steady, a little velcro. The markings are what people fall for, but the temperament is what keeps them.

Ultra Sheepadoodles
I breed these on purpose for more of the Old English Sheepdog personality. You still get the Sheepadoodle look, but the coat is soft and wavy instead of tight curls.
They're calmer and less hyper than a standard Sheepadoodle. Affectionate, loyal, and happy to follow you around or lie at your feet.
I care about temperament just as much as appearance. A beautiful dog is great. A dog that fits your family is better.

Old English Sheepdogs were bred for herding. Mine are gentle, playful, and happiest close to their people. They bond hard with their family, and when they're socialized they do well with kids and other pets.
They're smart, eager to please, and easy to train when you're consistent. They have moderate energy. They'll go for a walk, play outside, then lie around the house with you.

Eight weeks of real work before they leave
Puppies are like babies. They need a schedule, and everybody in the house has to be consistent — or else you have naughty dogs. So I start early.
1–2Weeks
ENS from day one
Early Neurological Stimulation, by hand, every day. It builds stress tolerance before their eyes are even open.
1–6Weeks
Noise and texture
Music, fireworks and doorbells during meals, so noise means dinner instead of danger. Grass, rocks, tile — whatever they can get their feet on.
3–6Weeks
The Weeble board
It's a trust game. They walk on it, it goes up and down, and they start to learn — can I trust this, can I not trust this?
5.5Weeks
Crate training
Night one they're great, night two they spaz out a little, night three they're perfect. Every family tells me the same thing.
8Weeks
Home to you
Vet checked, started on a schedule, and already used to a house. Every dog needs some kind of training or else they're going to be a pain in the butt — I'll tell you exactly where we left off.

What families ask me
How do you choose which puppy is right for us?
I temperament test the whole litter, and I'm with them every day, so I already know who's bold and who's soft. After you tell me about your household I'll come back with two or three that fit and what I know about each one. You pick from those.
How much grooming do these coats really need?
A lot, and I'd rather tell you now. Brushing several times a week and a groomer every six to eight weeks. Budget for it like you budget for food. It's the best and the hardest thing about these breeds.
Do you ship, or do we come to you?
Either. Plenty of families drive to Mesa, and I place puppies nationwide by ground transport or flight nanny. I'll figure out whatever gets your puppy home safely.
Are the doodles hypoallergenic?
No dog truly is. Both crosses shed far less than most breeds and a lot of allergy-sensitive families do fine, but I won't promise you something I can't. Come spend time with the adults first.
What health testing do you do?
Every breeding dog is Embark genetically tested, and I'll hand you the report for both parents. I've worked in nursing for twenty years — I'm not casual about this part.
Does everyone in my house need to be on board?
Yes, and I ask up front now. A puppy is an eight-to-twelve-year commitment for the whole household, and it goes badly when one person didn't really agree to it.
Have any of your puppies become service dogs?
A few have, yes. It's not what I set out to do — I raise family dogs — but the temperament testing and the early work seem to travel well.
